Welcome back to the Affordable Locksmith of Texas blog! In our last blog post, we began discussing how to keep your home safe. If you missed part 2, be sure to catch up, otherwise let’s dive into part two.
Light It Up
In our last blog, we discussed keeping the bushes trimmed so there are less places for those with ill intentions for your home to hide. Also, install some motion sensor lights. These will light up the area not only allowing your path to be lit when you arrive home late at night, but will illuminate anyone that is slinking around your home.
Lock Your Door
This probably seems like a silly tip, but locking the door is a must for keeping your home safe. Most burglars will look for an easy point of access and if they don’t find one, they will move on to the next house. Keeping your doors locked and your windows secure is a must for keeping your home safe in Spring and The Woodlands.
Get to Know Your Neighbors
Getting to know your neighbors is also a means of keeping your home more secure. Not only can they keep an eye on your house while you are gone, but can also make sure you appear to be home, by putting out your trash and picking up your mail and newspapers.
Update your Locks
If you have old locks, it’s time for an upgrade. Though deadbolts are a very effective way to keep your door locked, deadbolts that have been installed improperly are actually ineffective. If your deadbolt doesn’t turn all the way, the pocket in the door jam isn’t long enough and needs to be corrected. Also, an electronic locking system or rekeying your locks are both ways that you can upgrade your security and give you peace of mind that only those who are supposed to have access to your home actually do have access.
